Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference
02.07.2024
At the Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference, decision-makers from industry and infrastructure will meet experts from science and research.
Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference: A new congress on natural hazards in the Alpine region
With the increasing risk of alpine natural hazards due to climate change, the further development of forecasting, prevention and management is becoming one of the most urgent topics for research and the application industries. In order to promote these synergies and create a link between research and practice, the Federal Research Centre for Forests (BFW) and the Tyrolean Torrent and Avalanche Control Authority (WLV), together with Congress und Messe Innsbruck GmbH, are initiating the Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference (INAC). Under the motto "Industry Meets Science", the conference brings together key players from research, industry and infrastructure. The first INAC will take place from 5 to 7 May 2025 in Innsbruck, parallel to INTERALPIN, the world's leading trade fair for Alpine technologies.
Interdisciplinary exchange for the development of new safety concepts
The congress deals with natural hazards such as avalanches, mudflows, floods and rockfall. Jan-Thomas Fischer, Director of the Institute Natural Hazards at BFW, emphasises: "INAC will address the question of how integral Alpine natural hazard management can be designed for the future within the context of global climate change." Gebhard Walter, Head of WLV, adds: "By launching the Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference, we aim to connect key players in the natural hazards sector from all over the world in order to develop new solutions for sustainable protection on the one hand and to encourage more intensive application of current concepts that have emerged from industry and manufacturers on the other." The overlap with INTERALPIN offers unique synergies between practice and science. Christian Mayerhofer, Managing Director of CMI, emphasises the global reach of the event in conjunction with the world's leading trade fair INTERALPIN, which takes place at the same time: "At INTERALPIN, we welcome exhibiting companies from over 60 countries, some of which are already addressing natural hazards and providing solutions. Trade visitors to INTERALPIN come from around 130 countries. This enables us to make the best possible use of our expertise and global appeal."
